Cleveland-Asians and Friends Cleveland is ready to strut its colors at Cleveland Pride 2004. Watch for the group's 75-foot rainbow banner in the parade, and then stop by the Asians and Friends booth for faux tattoos and a selection of other fun merchandise.

After the parade, continue to bask in GLBT Pride afterglow at the Asians and Friends Pride Day Cookout at 7 p.m. at 12900 Lake Avenue in Lakewood, on the lower beach near Swingos restaurant. Tickets are $3 for members and $6 for non-members. For more information about Asians and Friends Priderelated and other activities, contact afcleveland@aol.com or visit the Asians and Friends web site at http://members.aol.com/ afcleveland.

Asians and Friends Cleveland promotes Asian culture, racial and cultural exchange, and equality for all across the GLBT community through monthly social, educational, and cultural activities throughout the year.

Begun as Asians and Friends of Cleveland in January 1995 with a core group of ten Asians and Americans, Asians and Friends Cleveland, Inc. is now a vibrant racially and culturally diverse organization of nearly 75 active members representing a broad spectrum of nations, among them Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, the United States, and Canada.

Asians and Friends Cleveland will commemorate its 10th anniversary in grand style at an expanded Chinese New Year celebration on February 5, 2005. The original group's first significant activity in 1995 was a small Chinese New Year party. This simple party has evolved into a major community event and one of northeast Ohio's largest Chinese New Year celebrations, attracting people from across the country.

This past January, a crowd of over 160 people enjoyed the Chinese New Year celebration and banquet held at Tin Fu restaurant, complete with a 13-course Chinese dinner, a live variety show featuring local and regional performers and cast members of the Beck Center's production of Miss Saigon, cash and other prizes, and an after-party at the Grid.

Asians and Friends Cleveland actively collaborates with local, regional, and national organizations like the AIDS Taskforce, the Cleveland Lesbian-Gay Center, People of All Colors Together, Heights Families for Equality, Human Rights Campaign and Cleveland Pride to bridge gaps between cultures and strengthen the GLBT community.

The group is also affiliated with Long Yang Club International and is a member of the International Friendship Alliance, sponsors of the annual International Friendship Weekends.
